The Montana Historical Society Education Office provides the a wide variety of educational resources online.

Montana: Stories of the Land
Companion Website and Online Teacher's Guide

Provides low resolution pdf files of each textbook chapter as well as worksheets,
tests, answer keys, and background information as well as links to lesson plans
and relevant websites.












Footlocker User Guides

Helps teachers prepare for utilizing our resources in the classroom.  The User Guides for each footlocker contain: historical narratives; a bibliography; compliance with Montana Standards for Social Studies; and lessons.

Ancient Teachings

Montana Ancient Teachings: A Curriculum for Montana Archaeology and Prehistory  

Introduces elementary and middle school students to the world of archaeology and what archaeologists have learned about Montana prehistory through archaeology and related scientific disciplines.  Use the Stones and Bones: Prehistoric Tools from Montana's Past footlocker as a companion piece to several of the lessons.



A Beautiful Tradition: Ingenuity and Adaptation in a Century of Plateau Women's Art was developed as a joint venture between the Montana Historical Society and the Montana Office of Public Instruction in conjunction with the Society's temporary exhibit, Tradition, Design, Color: Plateau Indian Beaded Bags from the Fred Mitchell Collection (on display May 14 through October 2, 2009). These materials are designed to provide you and your students with an exciting way to study this colorful art form while incorporating Indian Education for All in your classroom. There are three grade-appropriate versions of this curriculum: fourth/fifth grade, middle school, and high school.
