We are proud to present the 2014 Montana Historical
Society calendar featuring an in-depth photographic look at real life in
the West in the late 1800s to mid-1900s by Evelyn J. Cameron. Evelyn was
a remarkable, strong-willed, and fiercely independent woman who moved to
eastern Montana from England in 1893 with her husband to raise polo
ponies. When the horse venture failed, a self-taught photographer,
Evelyn embarked into the business of professional photography. She
chronicled homestead, farming, ranching, landscapes, community
activities, and everyday life on the prairie lands of Montana. Her life
story and photographs are extraordinary in every way as you will see in
examples of her images in the Montana Historical Society 2014
Calendar – Evelyn Cameron's Montana. A complimentary copy of this
calendar is sent to all current and new Montana Historical Society
members as a benefit of membership.
If you would like to learn more about Evelyn's history and her amazing photography, you can purchase a copy of: Evelyn Cameron – Montana's Frontier Photographer, text by Kristi Hager; or Photographing Montana 1894 – 1928: The Life and Work of Evelyn Cameron by Donna M. Lucey. We also sell Evelyn Cameron – Pictures from a Worthy Life a DVD by Montana PBS. All are sold through the MHS Museum Store, as is the new post card book of photographs by Evelyn Cameron.
