To celebrate our 20th century architectural legacy, the MTSHPO initiated the Montana Post World War II (1945-1960) Architectural Survey and Inventory.

The project identified, documented, and evaluated selected properties from Montana’s post-war period. Our efforts culminated in a museum exhibit, preservation poster, contextual report, and National Register nominations that together provide insight to this remarkable era in our architectural history.

Our 2011 preservation poster featured the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse at MSU-Bozeman. The building’s cylindrical shape, shallow-domed roofline, and aluminum-framed curtain walls inform its design.

Montana architects Oswald Berg Jr. and Fred Willson conceptualized this dramatic and futuristic building in 1956. Despite recent additions, the original genius of form, function, and materials technology remain.
